For me, the absolute worst age in this range were the terrible two's and what my mom calls the triflin' three's (as opposed to the trying three's), and that was across the board for all my kids. They all entered the terrible two's at a different stage. My eldest started his terrible two's when he was about 19 months and it went on into the three's and then stopped when he was a few months shy of 4. My 7yo, didn't hit the terrible two stage until late, he was closer to 2.5 and continued until he was 3.5. And my 5yo, I swear he has gone through terrible two's, triflin' three's, ferocious four's, and I think we hit the fast and furious five's there for a bit, but he has mellowed out a lot lately!
But, I know a lot of people who look at me and laugh, then say at least when they hit the 2's,3's and 4's it was a little easier, since the child could talk and they knew what the child wanted and could act accordingly. So for them the worst age was the newborn/baby age. When they had to guess what that cry meant. Was it an I'm hungry, cold, too hot, scared, sleepy, gassy, just want to be held, etc cry. For me, I would rather take the newborn/baby stage over the latter years, lol
I have a 3 year old and she is always pressing my buttons atleast when she was two she was still sweet and loving and didn't yell back at me. I could deal with the throwing things.
